Iowa sports betting handle nears $3 billion in 2025
In December 2025, Iowa concluded the month with a sports betting handle of $275.6 million, generating $30.12 million in gross gaming revenue (GGR) and contributing $2.03 million in state tax receipts.
The month recorded a hold rate of 10.93%, marking it as one of Iowa’s more successful revenue months, despite a notable decline in betting volume from the peak experienced in the fall.
December rounded out a year characterized by significant fluctuations in handle, inconsistent margin performance, and an increasing emphasis on regulating unlicensed wagering platforms.
Like in the rest of states with legal sports betting, DraftKings and FanDuel are by far the most popular. Since August 2019, Iowa has permitted both retail and online sports betting, allowing residents and visitors to place bets on a wide range of professional and collegiate sports.
The Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission oversees the industry, ensuring fair play and consumer protection.
