Kansas reports sports betting revenue of $227 million

Kansas sportsbooks reported total handle of $227,310,386 for January 2026, generating gross gaming revenue (GGR) of $15,197,504 with a hold of 6.69%.

Additionally, the state collected $1,519,750 in taxes. These figures indicate a market that has stabilized after a more turbulent winter in 2024-2025. Although handle saw a year-over-year decline, tax collections remained relatively steady compared to previous Januarys, benefiting from an improved margin compared to 2025. January 2026 illustrates that Kansas has moved from a rapid launch phase into a more stable and competitive market landscape.

The fluctuations in year-over-year handle indicate that growth is now more closely linked to the dynamics of the sports calendar and promotional efforts rather than mere structural expansion. With over 98% of wagering volume occurring online, the competition continues to focus on mobile acquisition and retention.

DraftKings and FanDuel dominate the top tier of the market, while mid-tier operators like BetMGM, Caesars, and Fanatics are also valuable contributors to statewide tax revenue.

The slight improvement in hold compared to January 2025 suggests a normalization of operator margins following last year’s unusually favorable conditions for bettors. If this level of efficiency continues into Q1, Kansas could sustain tax revenue stability even without achieving record handle totals.
