Bipartisan Bill wants sports banned on prediction markets
Senators Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) and John Curtis (R-Utah) are making strides to regulate the burgeoning sports betting market with a groundbreaking bipartisan bill.
This legislation aims to prevent prediction-market platforms from accepting wagers on sports events. Set to be introduced on Monday, the bill would specifically target platforms overseen by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), which includes notable players like Kalshi, Polymarket, DraftKings, FanDuel, Underdog, Robinhood, Crypto.com, and Coinbase, among others, from entering the sports event contract space, as reported by the Wall Street Journal.
Additionally, the measure seeks to ban so-called “casino-style games” on these platforms, which encompass popular games like slot machines, video poker, blackjack, and bingo. In a related legal development, Nevada recently secured a temporary restraining order against Kalshi to halt its offering of event-based contracts tied to sports, elections, and entertainment.
