Nederlandse Loterij initiates legal action against Qbet

Legal

Nederlandse Loterij is launching a lawsuit against the operators and directors behind Qbet, currently the largest illegal gambling site in the Netherlands.

These companies are based in Curaçao and Costa Rica. To protect players from illegal, risky practices, Nederlandse Loterij wants to shut down this site. Following the summons of Lalabet in March 2025, this is the second legal proceeding initiated by Nederlandse Loterij against an illegal gambling site.

Arjan Blok, CEO of Nederlandse Loterij: “Players can still easily access illegal gambling sites, without age checks or playing limits, and with irresponsible bonuses and misleading payment methods. Currently, 200,000 Dutch people are gambling illegally.

It is precisely these players who run the greatest risks, because they play more often and with more money on illegal sites. That is why Nederlandse Loterij is taking responsibility and taking the largest illegal gambling site to court. Not only the direct offender, but also everyone behind them who facilitates this site.

With the goal of shutting down and keeping illegal gambling sites shut down.” Last month, Novatech, operator of Qbet and 55Bet, was already fined over 24 million euros by the Gaming Authority. In addition to the administrative steps taken by the regulator, Nederlandse Loterij is initiating civil proceedings to hold operators, trust offices, shell companies, and their directors liable.
