Louisiana sports wagers near $307 million in July
In July Louisiana bettors placed an impressive $306,958,729 in wagers, with sportsbooks retaining $34,780,576, reflecting an 11.36% hold.
From this amount, $7,341,045 was allocated to the state. However, one surprising statistic emerged in the monthly sports breakdown, particularly for a World Cup summer: soccer generated only $153,507 in net proceeds, marking the lowest figure for any month in the recently concluded fiscal year.
In contrast, the month of May saw soccer earnings reach $713,717, over four times higher than June’s underwhelming results.
Despite the excitement surrounding this years World Cup event, July proved to be the least profitable month for soccer in Louisiana’s history. These figures are provided by the Louisiana Gaming Control Board.
Throughout the fiscal year, soccer managed to generate approximately $5.14 million for Louisiana sportsbooks, averaging around $428,000 per month. July, however, fell short at just 36% of that monthly average, during a tournament that captivated millions across American television for three weeks.
