PrizePicks launches a digital rip product to join the pack opening market
PrizePicks has made its debut in the pack opening and trading card industry by launching its new digital rips product, PrizePicks Packs.
The move comes after fellow fantasy pick’em and prediction market operator Underdog launched its digital rips product last month.
Prices vary widely, from entry-level packs at a few dollars to premium packs in the thousands. There’s something for everyone, all from the comfort of your phone or computer.
So how does the product work? You pay some money to open a pack on an app. The card could be worth less than you paid, or a lot more. And now more operators are getting into digital rips in short order.
For decades, opening a pack of trading cards meant a trip to the card shop or a big-box store, sometimes fighting crowds for the latest drop or paying exorbitant resale prices. Digital rips, are product that brings that energy of ripping a pack online from the comfort of your phone, without the extra hassle. Plus, the cards you pull are real, just like pulling from a physical pack.
The term “rip” comes from tearing open a physical pack. The difference is that online, there’s no physical wrapper; every card in a digital pack already exists, has been authenticated, and is held by the platform you’re buying the pack from.
