Dutch gambling regulator issues record €37 million fine to illegal operator
The Gaming Authority (Ksa) has imposed a fine of €37 million on EOD Code SRL for illegally offering games of chance in the Netherlands. The company offered games of chance without a license through various websites, including Instant Casino and Skyhills. EOD Code was previously imposed an order subject to a penalty for this.
Research shows that people who gamble from the Netherlands could also bet on these websites, without measures being taken to prevent participation from the Netherlands. There was also no visible age verification and there was a possibility to pay with cryptocurrency and anonymous payment methods. This entails risks, including the risk of money laundering.
It has been estimated that the EOD Code has earned more money from the efforts of Dutch participants, which is why higher fines have been chosen based on turnover estimates. At €37 million, this is the highest fine imposed by the Ksa so far for offering illegal games of chance.
Action against illegal offers is not only done with administrative fines, as mentioned here, but also by working intensively with third parties, such as payment service providers, hosting parties, banks and large tech companies.
