Kalshi expands protections for 18- to 20-year-old traders
Kalshi, the next-generation financial exchange, is expanding protections for its young adult traders. Every account for 18- to 20-year-olds will have a $2,500 monthly deposit limit, adding another step to Kalshi’s proactive intervention for losses.
Kalshi is also announcing new partnerships with parent and youth safety organizations, including Parent ProTech and ConnectSafely, to publish Parents’ Guides to Prediction Markets. The guides will give parents everything they need to know to ensure responsible trading habits and keep minors off of Kalshi.
Kalshi is a financial exchange regulated by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, and, like other financial exchanges, it doesn’t allow anyone under 18 to trade on its platform. Eighteen- to 20-year-old traders will now be automatically placed into special accounts with extra protections and responsible trading education built in. Accounts for 18- to 20-year-old traders have always included safeguards, and new partnerships and features announced today will help strengthen them.
“Like the stock exchange, Kalshi is available only to traders 18 and older,” said Luana Lopes Lara, COO and co-founder of Kalshi. “Still, we know that young adults are often new to markets and may need more education and safeguards, so we are expanding our protections for this group of users.”
“We’re happy to work with Kalshi to help prevent minors from accessing prediction markets and to educate parents and other adults about the risks,” said Larry Magid, CEO, ConnectSafely.” Those risks go beyond losing money and can include compulsive trading, excessive screen time and risky financial behavior.
Our goal is not just to keep kids off these platforms, but to help them develop the judgment to make informed decisions about money and risk now and as they grow older.”
“Kids should not be on prediction markets, and we appreciate Kalshi supporting families in keeping it that way,” said Brock Murphy, Co-Founder & CEO, Parent ProTech. “Parents deserve clear, practical tools to keep their children off these platforms. This guide explains what prediction markets are in plain language and gives families simple steps to start the conversation and keep their kids safe.”
