Illinois temporarily suspends some NFL betting markets
The Illinois Gaming Board has banned some wagers on NFL games over concerns that certain bets are “susceptible to manipulation” and are “predetermined or 100% determinable by one person.”
Fans are now unable to wager on first plays, replay outcomes, or whether a kicker will miss a field goal or an extra point.
The National Football League (NFL) requested the ban to preserve the integrity of players, coaches, and referees.
“Prohibiting these wagers altogether would complement NFL policies that require game participants, and other NFL personnel, to use their best efforts on the playing field and to protect NFL ‘inside information,’” Jonathan Nabavi, vice president for the NFL Public Policy and Government Affairs, said in the request.
Sportsbooks that allow the bets could lose their gaming license.
The NFL is working to prohibit similar prop bets in Arizona, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, Ohio, Tennessee, and Vermont.
