Iowa’s sports betting market experienced a noticeable slowdown in April, as highlighted by the latest findings from the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission.

In April, Iowa sportsbooks reported net receipts of $21.86 million, a decline from $24.57 million in March, representing a decrease of approximately $2.7 million, or 11%.

Additionally, the total amount wagered took a significant hit, with the sports betting handle dropping from $268.23 million in March to $210.46 million in April a decline of nearly $57.8 million.

The April report also indicates that most of the sports wagering activity remained online. Internet sports wagering comprised a substantial $201.17 million of the state’s total handle, while retail sportsbooks saw approximately $9.29 million in bets.

The April reports show Iowa’s sports betting market can move quickly with the sports calendar, while casino gaming still drives the bulk of gambling revenue in the state.
