Indiana sports wagers surge to $403 million
Indiana bettors placed a staggering $403,396,677 in wagers during June 2026, marking a 14.78% increase from the prior year and a remarkable 35.3% rise compared to June 2025.
This month typically represents a low point in the annual betting calendar, but a closer look at the state’s sports betting breakdown reveals the reason behind this surge.
Parlays generated a hefty $170.4 million, while the “Other” category—encompassing sports like soccer—accounted for $121.6 million. Together, these two categories represented an impressive 72.4% of all wagers in the state, up from 60% just a month earlier. The World Cup, which began on June 11 across North America, played a pivotal role in reshaping Indiana’s betting landscape during this period. These figures are sourced from the Indiana Gaming Commission. Without the World Cup, June would typically be the least vibrant month for sportsbooks.
The absence of football significantly affected numbers, with just $9.6 million wagered in that category. Basketball, which generally captures 22.4% of Indiana’s betting handle throughout the year, dwindled to $43.7 million, accounting for only 10.8% as both the NBA and college seasons came to a close. Surprisingly, even baseball, currently in peak season, brought in lower bets than in May. It’s important to note that soccer isn’t listed separately in Indiana’s reporting; it falls within the “Other” category, which also includes hockey, tennis, and golf.
The performance of this category in June serves as a clear indicator of the impact of the World Cup. “Other” wagers soared to $121.6 million, making up 30.2% of the month’s total handle, well above the year-to-date average of 21.0%. This figure had been at 27.0% in May, prior to the tournament’s kickoff. The timing couldn’t be clearer.
The World Cup launched on June 11, featuring the first-ever 48-team format and marking the largest soccer event ever hosted in North America, with group-stage matches scheduled throughout late June in U.S. time zones.
While hockey contributed to some of the “Other” category during the Stanley Cup Final in early June, the substantial increase during a month when most other categories declined clearly points to soccer. Indiana bettors eagerly engaged with the World Cup and placed significant bets across various markets in the state’s sportsbooks.
