Svenska Spel’s third-quarter of the is characterized by an increased result for the Svenska Spel Group and that the percentage of healthy income reaches the highest level ever.

However, the result continues to be negatively affected by the challenges for Casino Cosmopol and the slot machines Vegas. The biggest gaming news is the launch of Supportern, a new digital lottery together with Swedish sports.

During the first half of this year, growth in the Swedish gambling market has stopped – this for the first time since mid-2020.

In a time of zero growth, revenues for two out of three business areas grow during the third quarter. Our customer base is growing and the share of healthy revenue is increasing – we therefore have more customers who also play more sustainably. We have increased results, high and consistent customer satisfaction, and also high availability of our services, says Patrik Hofbauer, president and CEO of Svenska Spel.

The group’s net gaming revenue for the quarter is SEK 1,965 million (1,954), which is a small increase compared to the same quarter last year. The operating profit of SEK 686 million (681) is an increase of 1 percent despite the negative impact of the operating profit for the Casino Cosmopol & Vegas business area, which decreases by SEK 22 million. The operating margin amounts to 35 percent (35). The group’s online business continues to increase. This quarter by 6 percent compared to the same quarter last year, and online accounts for 53 percent (50) of the group’s revenue during the quarter.

Net gaming revenue for business area Sport & Casino increases by 4 percent compared to the same quarter last year. It is driven by a continued increase in active customers, a successful launch of new poker and growth for online casinos.

Business area Tur increases net gaming revenue by 2 percent compared to the corresponding quarter last year. It is Eurojackpot that drives the revenue during the quarter.

For the Casino Cosmopol & Vegas business area, net gaming revenue decreases by 11 percent. The operating profit of -35 MSEK is a decrease of 22 MSEK compared to the same quarter last year. This is due to several factors which, in aggregate, result in fewer visitors and lower revenue. The biggest impact is from increased competition from online games and restaurant casinos as well as strengthened measures in the work with duty of care and against money laundering. It now faces the business area with an adjustment of operations, where Casino Cosmopol, among other things, has new opening hours from October 1 to be open when guests want to visit Casino Cosmopol. Other examples are changes to restaurants and events to achieve coordination gains.

The biggest news of the quarter is the numbers game Supporter. It was launched together with 27 ice hockey associations in the SHL, SDHL and Hockeyallsvenskan in connection with the season premiere of the hockey leagues. The supporter was developed at the request of Swedish ice hockey and it is the affiliated associations that themselves develop the game rounds in the digital numbers game. One of the advantages for the associations is that the games can be offered at home matches as well as away matches and events. The hope is that the Supporter can be expanded to more associations and sports in the long term.

During the quarter, Svenska Spel distributed 45 million winnings in number games and lotteries with a total value of more than SEK 147 million. The highest prize was a Triss Monthly Clover of SEK 100,000 a month for 20 years, a total of SEK 24 million. The sports and casino games have delivered 20 million winnings during the quarter, of which eleven million winnings on Stryktipset, the largest a win of SEK 14 million.

During the quarter, the percentage of healthy income reaches the highest level ever and the number of sustainable customers increases compared to the same quarter last year. It is an important confirmation that the gambling responsibility measures have the intended positive effect. The group’s focus on sustainable gambling continues through the work of daily further developing gambling responsibility in everything from Spelkolls technology to care calls.

In sports sponsorship, Svenska Spel has awarded 50 new elite sports scholarships of SEK 50,000 each. The scholarship holders are active in 40 different sports and the addition gives them a better opportunity to combine sports at an elite level with higher studies.
