The Arizona Department of Gaming reported that the state’s sportsbooks saw handle of $648.2 million in October, the state’s second-highest total in 26 months of legal wagering as it closed the book on a historic month of betting in the United States.

Arizona sports betting handle was up 5.1% compared to the previous October while moving above $5 billion for the calendar year. The October handle trails only the $691 million worth of wagers accepted in March 2022. Arizona is closing in on $13 billion in all-time handle since launching in September 2021.

Overall, Arizona sportsbooks took in a total handle of $648,208,573 in October, which was up 6.1% from September’s sum of $610,716,285 and a 4.8% increase in a year-over-year comparison with October 2022 ($618,570,296).

Arizona sportsbooks saw their revenue figures climb, albeit slightly, on a month-by-month basis, gaining 1.3% from September’s total of $32,551,332 by finishing October at $32,987,401, according to figures from the Arizona Department of Gaming website.

The tax bill for Arizona sportsbooks in October was $3,287,799, up 1.4% from September’s total of $3,243,222, putting the finishing touches on a strong month for sportsbook operators in the Grand Canyon State.

The top sportsbook by total Arizona mobile sports betting handle was DraftKings Sportsbook Arizona, with $220,623,044 in wagers, the largest total in the company’s 26 months in the state (knocking off September’s previous high of $218,028,438). Trailing them by an eyelash was FanDuel Sportsbook Arizona at $220,302,787 for October. That was the second largest month in the state, behind the $254.9 million total they took in during March.
