North Carolina sports betting hits $600 million in April

Sports Betting

North Carolina’s online sports betting market saw impressive results in April 2026, with nearly $612 million in bets placed, yielding over $64.4 million in gross wagering revenue (GWR) and approximately $11.6 million in tax revenue for the state.

Although this handle was below the extraordinary figures recorded during the launch period in 2024, it reflects the market’s ongoing stability over a year after legalization. Sportsbooks benefited from improved win margins and consistent engagement from bettors during a thrilling playoff season.

April also brought heightened enthusiasm for the Carolina Hurricanes, who advanced to the Eastern Conference Final after a decisive 4-0 sweep against the Philadelphia Flyers in the second round of the NHL playoffs. A notable trend in North Carolina’s sports betting landscape is the increasing normalization of monthly wagering activity.

April 2024 marked just the second full month of legal online sports betting in North Carolina, following the market’s launch in March 2024.

This early phase resulted in exceptionally high betting activity and raised hold rates as sportsbooks actively pursued new customers and bettors eagerly joined the newly regulated environment.
