Premier League’s front-of-shirt sponsorship ban kicks in

This season marks a significant shift in Premier League shirts for the first time in over twenty years, as the league phases out gambling sponsors from the front of jerseys.

Starting in the 2026/27 season, this new policy affects nearly half of the league’s teams, with eight clubs having removed gambling logos that were showcased prominently on their shirts last season.

The decision for a voluntary ban was made by Premier League clubs back in April 2023, but the full impact didn’t come into effect until this summer.

Fulham was the first club to allow betting firms to feature on the front of Premier League shirts.

Now, over two decades later, numerous teams are in a rush to secure new sponsors as the new campaign approaches. For instance, Nottingham Forest went into pre-season without a front-of-shirt sponsor after they took down the Bally’s logo that had been there last year.

They have since struck a deal with Marex, a global financial services platform. Meanwhile, Chelsea still finds themselves without a main sponsor.

The Blues believe their sponsorship value is around £50 million, and as they haven’t yet found a partner ready to meet that demand, they are set to start another season with a blank space on their shirts.
